Osteosarcoma…one Dog’s Story
Meet our friend Ozzy!
We met Ozzy and his Dad last summer at the Richmond Vegetarian Festival. Dad sadly reported that Ozzy had been diagnosed with an osteosarcoma in his leg (an aggressive form of bone cancer) and he was going to have to euthanize his best buddy. We asked his dad if anyone had spoken to him about amputation (amputation of the affected leg, followed by chemotherapy treatments, is often an option with osteosarcomas). Dad did his research and called us first thing the following Monday morning. He had his diagnosing doctor’s notes and recommendation sent to us and we were able to perform the procedure for Ozzy the next day. Once Ozzy recovered, Dad took him for several chemotherapy treatments (which Dad reports Ozzy tolerated very well).
We ran into Ozzy and Dad last weekend at the Strangeways brewery benefit for Richmond Animal Care and Control. They are both doing GREAT! We are so, so happy and feel so lucky we were able to help them have more ‘good time’!!!
Below are some Very Happy Tri-pods we have helped over the years 🙂 Please watch the video as one of our Doctor’s explains the amputation process.
